About the event

A one-day online workshop with Shaun Prendergast.

Lambic pentameter and metrical verse? Outdated language and obscure, classical illusions? These are just some of the hurdles contemporary actors face understanding and performing Shakespeare.

Despite being written over four hundred years ago, the themes in Shakespeare’s plays are timeless and universal. Stories of the lust for power, of corruption, of the magic of love and ruthless ambition. The same stories and themes which fill our screens and our news feeds today. As actors, how do we face the challenge of performing classic texts for contemporary audiences?

In this workshop you will explore two Shakespeare plays and examine what we as actors can learn about Shakespeare by discovering how his plays mirror contemporary events, social issues and genres. And as actors, how we can use these relevancies to enrich our understanding of the texts and inform our work?

This is a fun, energised…
